To colour or not to colour?

Fellas – To colour or not to colour, that is the question?

I walked into a Men’s shoe store the other day and glanced at their collection of numerous black and brown and black and brown and black and brown and black and …zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

I thought to myself “is that it?! How Depressing!!!”

Is it any wonder then that most men tend to own only two pairs of shoes, one black and one …I’ll let you guess the other one.

I haven’t got anything against black or brown but come on, aren’t you bored to tears of it by now?!
If you are, then listen up Fellas: there is a world of other gorgeous colours out there for you to choose from. It all depends on how daring you are!

If you’re the more risk averse type, how about starting off with something understated like a nice pair of navy blues or even something like this purple pointy shoes from Topman?

Or if you’re feeling rather brave, how about these hot pink from Office, the orange loafers from Kurt Geiger or the orange brogues from Paul Smith . Having said that, it takes a certain kind of ‘Je ne sais quoi’ to pull these off! Still, nothing ventured, nothing gained! So live a little and start exploring what works best for you.

Still not convinced about adding a bit colour to your shoe collection? Well, here’s a scientific fact for you: Wearing colour releases some kind of chemical in your brain that makes you stay happy all day long. (… hmm, actually I think I might have made that one up!)

On a more serious note, Men’s fashion, along with every thing else in this fast paced world we live in, is evolving and trends that would have been unheard of a few years ago are slowly making their way into the shops and into men’s wardrobes … the summer scarves, Man bags etc.

So isn’t it time you embraced a bit of colour? After all, you wouldn’t want to get left behind now, would you?

The Man and his shoes

Not sure about you, but for some reason one of the first things I tend to notice about a man is what sort of shoes he is wearing *wink*, I know …I know…it might sound a bit shallow but hey before you crucify me check out how long it takes you to notice someone’s shoes next time you meet them.
General perception is that men aren’t as crazy about shoes as women but I have a male friend, a few actually, who are so in love with shoes. I can’t figure out who is worse – them or their fiancées. I know they might sound a bit extreme, so how about the guys who are not crazy about shoes or actually don’t know what’s out there for them. Here is some help for the brothers – so, what types of shoes are out there for you?
Alright, I know chances are you cannot own yellow pairs of shoes or pink or blue or all those crazy shoe colours women can have…but hey lets talk style! All your shoes don’t have to be black and they don’t all have to be pointes either! Let’s talk variety and let’s look at what else you can have.
I tell you something actually; I was absolutely shocked to find out how many different types of men’s shoes there are. I had to admit there was no way I could fit it all into one blog.
So let’s talk about laced-up shoes this time round – both formal and casual shoes:
Oxfords – An Oxford shoe is a laced-up shoe that doesn’t come above the ankle. They come in different styles-
Brogue – the term brogue is used to describe shoes with tiny holes which are punched on them to make patterns. This can cover the whole shoe- heavy brogue, or can simply be half of the shoes- half brogue.
Plain-toe: As the name suggests, these shoes are plain toed. Very simple but can be elegant with its clean cut. Not a lot of drama about them- at best they could have a few patterns on them. They come in different styles; round, pointed or square shaped.
Cap-toe: These shoes have a separate piece of leather in front of them and can either be plain or patterned.
Wing tips: These have wing like patterns.
Casual shoes: Everyday shoes you can wear with most things including jeans and chinos.
Boat shoes or Moccasins: Everyday casual shoes- can be worn with pretty much anything- jeans, chinos and khakis.
Sneakers: yet another everyday casual shoe. You can get really adventurous with sneakers. Great way to bring colour into your wardrobe…..
So now that you know you can have more than 4 pairs of black shoes with very similar styles…lol….it might be time to update your shoe collection…
I might as well add that the summer sales are still here, so get shopping!

Ok, maybe that sounds a bit extreme,  and the guys like that are rare. Many guys are not crazy about shoes- unlike us-, and most guys do not actually know what’s out there for them.  So, I decided to lend a helping hand.
