If you’ve got thin legs and ankles, then…..

So as promised….I am back!

Having discussed thick ankles and calves a few weeks ago, I promised to write about what shoes to wear and not to wear for the ladies out there without thick ankles and calves. Well, as I am one, I think this should be fairly easy. I have to say I have got fairly thin legs and ankles and with a shoe size 6/39- I find I can get away with most types of shoes.

Oh…the look of envy on my friends faces when we go shoe shopping- every shoe I try on fits like a glove! And of course as you can imagine- that has made being a shoeaholic very easy *wink wink*

So let’s get straight to the point. With skinny legs you can generally pull off any type of shoe, but which ones should you avoid?
Large chunky shoes or shoes with bulky heels make thin legs and small ankles look smaller and out of balance because the largeness of the shoes overpower the leg.

h shoes is the thick wedge heels. Whilst wedges add definition and shape to thick/heavy ankles, making them look thinner; a thick wedge heel like the ones below will make really skinny ankles appear thinner.

I am not to wear wedges!? I hear you ask me. Its one of the most comfortable ways to wear heels, you add. I agree with you – so if you have to wear them, try wedges without chunky thick heels like these ones – you can get away with them slightly. Sure I can hear you sigh in relief. Phew!

One to suc

It’s not news that stilettos have a way of making us look elegant, or should I say – attractive and classy. However, if you have thin legs and ankles, you should avoid extra thin stiletto heels! Avoid thin teetering heels as they look like they are going to snap under the weight of your body.

Okay, so I cannot wear heels? No, that’s not what I mean – you sure can wear heels but not those thin ones. I mean, shoes have more attitude than any other accessory and not only does it affect the way you look but how you feel and move! So heels that allow you move with grace and ease are a better way to go….check out these out which include the patent shoes which are sooo in right now….

Talking about comfortable heels, I have a confession! I fell in love with this pair I bought last weekend…and guess what? I loved them so much I bought them in two different colours….lol

So let’s talk about what to wear. As I said earlier on, you can get away with most styles – but some work even better.

Flats/ Ballet Pumps. They are the shoes I can’t live without. One word – Comfort! They sure are always a good choice.

Whilst talking about flats and comfortable shoes, ladies with thin legs can pull off long gladiator sandals….

Finally, if you have got thin ankles, then shoes with ankle straps are great! Because they create visual width, they are an ideal solution. Just make sure you go for thicker ankles straps as it enhances the thickness of your legs.

So now you know! Get shopping for the right pairs….
To my fellow ladies out there with thin legs and ankles, here is to you shopping and getting all the amazing styles of shoes out there for you.

On another note, as I write this blog this early Friday morning – there is an announcement on BBC1 news about a possible ban on women wearing stilettos to the work place especially with employers who insist female employees wear heels to work. Michelle Dewberry, an Apprentice winner from a few years ago argues she will not be found dead without heels in the work place as it affects her confidence. Hahaha….interesting debate.

Anyway, till we catch up again keep your head up whatever shoe you are wearing- flats or heels!!!

Diamonds are a …

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend. Diamond Shoes are a girl’s ‘bestest’ friend!

I found myself thinking about fairytales the other day (what’s a girl to do on a rainy lazy Sunday afternoon?) Anyway, you know the classics – Snow White, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, the Little Mermaid, Sleeping beauty…
And I started wondering which of those fairytales I could effortlessly fit into and which gorgeous princess I could impersonate:

Beauty/Belle? – Hmm, not bad except I don’t really fancy the whole “beast” thing!!

Sleeping beauty? – I do love my sleep but not that much!!

Little Mermaid – Half human, half fish?! …need I say more?!

Cinderella on the other hand… Oh Cinderella, I could definitely be!!

“But she had a sad life with the constant housework and ugly sisters” I hear you say.

That’s fine by me. I can handle all that.

What’s a bit of housework and mean ugly sisters. (Cleanliness is next to Godliness, after all, lol! And Helloooo, have you met my boss?! I’m telling you she could give those two sisters a run for their money!)

Yep, I think I could put up with all that for a chance to not just wear but own a pair of Glass slippers…

Or in my modern day version of the Cinderella story – DIAMOND SHOES (glass is soo 17th century, hehe!)

Think about it, how fabulous would those be!!

Anyway, in my quest for a pair of shoes made entirely of diamonds, I came across this beauty made by shoe designer Stuart Weitzman.

Contemplating buying this? Well, these 3 inches of gorgeousness will set you back a cool $2 million (…recession? What recession?!)

Seeing as I’m not made of money (well not yet anyway! Hehe!) My search continues for a more affordable pair.

Wish me luck!! (Yeah, good luck with that, Sandra!)

…Seriously, What was Cinderella thinking leaving those behind?!…silly girl, lol!

So what if you have big calves and thick ankles????

It is only fair to say that women love shoes a great deal- at least most of my male friends tell me this as they have to fight for space in the room ‘cos their spouse has her shoes everywhere! Well maybe some are not as bad as others. Some women love their shoes a little, some love them a lot and some are completely addicted….Shoeaholics I call them!

thick_legs

Well, what is important to note though is not all shoes suit all body types. I had noticed a beautiful young lady a few weeks ago who had fairly big legs or I should say calves for her size 10/12 body frame. And so I thought to myself- what shoes should a woman with thick calves and ankles wear or not wear?

Well, let’s talk about what shoe(s) not to wear if you have got big ankles & calves- Ankles straps are a big no no as they make your already big ankles look fatter.

I know that ballet pumps are the most comfortable, versatile shoes but sometimes the delicacy of these shoes can make the legs appear larger.

One other thing to avoid will be mules- this is because the enclosed front of the shoe reduces the length of your foot thus making it appear a lot chunkier and shorter.

With such a list of shoes to avoid, I am sure you are wondering- Ha, what am I going to wear then?? Well, here is a few that I hope will put a smile on your face.

Platform shoes are perfect for you. They simply help balance your ankles and legs, and if they are open-toed- perfect! This will give an appearance of length. And oh- make sure your toes are well-manicured if you decide to go for the peep-toed option? ha ha ha

Although they can sometimes be difficult to walk in if they are too long, pointed-toed shoes because they make the foot look longer and slender, are a nice way to balance out the thickness of your calves.

If stiletto heels are not your thing and you do love your comfort, then wedge heel shoes can also be a good one as long as the toes are not enclosed and they don’t have ankle straps. They make you taller and also elongate your foot.

Now you know what shoes flatter your legs better if you have big ankles & calves! So clear the wrong ones out and get shopping for the right ones!!? lol

For my dear readers who don’t have big ankles & calves, I am sure you can’t wait to find out what’s best for you too; well, watch this space.

I will be back!

…And oh, by the way, the summer sales are still on so – get shopping!!!!

…What does your shoe say about you?

Forrest Gump said : ”Momma always says there’s an awful lot you could tell about a person by their shoes. Where they’re going. Where they’ve been…..”

Well,  I think ‘Momma’ was right!

I reckon that our shoes mirror our personalities, much the same way as owners look like their dogs (…strange but true!).

‘’Yeah, but I’ve got lots of different types of shoes so what do you mean?!” I hear you ask.

Obviously, I realise that most of us own at least 10 pairs of shoes spanning across different styles, colours and textures but if we take a closer look at our shoe collection, we may notice that we have at least one main style featuring in our collection…….Go on, I dare you to prove me wrong!

So what does that style tell us about you?

For you Stiletto lovers

stilettoOne word…CONFIDENT!! It takes a lot to pull off the Stiletto look! (a lot of balance, that’s for sure!). There is just something about stilettos that scream…. “look out world, I’m coming”!! (Either that or you’re 5 foot 1 inch, like me and in desperate need of some height!! ..lol!!

mary_janes

Mary Janes are considered somewhat preppy and as such its wearers are likely to be a bit more reserved with a hint of playful MISCHIEVIOUSESS…. I should know, seeing as Mary Janes are my absolute favourites!

ballet_pumpsBallet Pump – a personality synonymous with this style of shoe is PRACTICAL……which is fair enough really because how realistic is it to run, jump and skip in 6 inch heels all day, every day, hmmm? …Sometimes your feet need a break!!!…..unless, you’re Carrie Bradshaw, that is! In which case, you go, girl!!!

Sandal wearers are dainty and have a penchant for all things GIRLY and Feminine..

sandals

Court Wearers are court_shoesPROFFESIONALS who spend a fair bit of time at work or have jobs that require ‘power dressing’ ….for some strange reason, the word domineering also springs to mind, can’t think why!….maybe because courts remind me of my boss at work….oh dear!!

trainersTrainer Lovers,  Right, I’m going to take a ‘wild’ guess here and say these wearers are ATHLETIC and sporty and incorporate sports into their everyday life(…goes without saying really!)

Any way these are just my thoughts! Feel free to disagree…disagree!

For the love of…

“Err, Don’t you think you’ve got too many shoes?!” a work colleague once asked as he peered under my desk at work to get a better look at my work shoes “collection”

‘’You’re joking right?!’’ came my reply.

At that time, stashed under my desk at work were three pairs of different styles of, what I consider, work shoes.

I looked at him in disbelief and thought to myself “we obviously haven’t been properly introduced…… Hi, my name is Sandra and I’m a ‘shoeaholic’ “…. (How he seriously thought I could go through life with only 3 pairs of shoes is beyond me!)

Now, anyone who knows me, knows that I am in love with Fashion and what kind of ‘Fashionista’ would I be if I didn’t love shoes?! …hmmmm, not a very good one I’d say….hehe!

Yes, I admit it! I LOVE LOVE LOVE shoes.  It might actually come as a surprise to most women but I really have an aversion to Chocolate but give me a gorgeous pair of footwear and Honey, I’m all yours!!!

The sheer assortment of it – courts, sling backs, wedges, peep toes, mary janes, platforms, ballerinas, t-bars, gladiators, ankle boots, knee high boots, sandals, stilettos, kitten heels………etc)….and don’t even get me started on the colours!! Lol!!

My favourite pair for now has got to be a pair of silk, sapphire green, peep toes….. One word – DELICIOUS!! If I remember correctly, I think I shed a little tear the first time I put them on because they are just incredibly beautiful and very ‘’look at me’’…just what I like!…hehe!!

It is my heartfelt belief that shoes can make or break any outfit. A pair of gorgeous shoes can glam up the simplest of outfits…..you just need to pick the right pair (…and that’s why I have a few, to say the least!!)

Right, enough about me – stay tuned to find out what your shoes say about your personality…interesting stuff
